OUR EDITORIAL METHOD

Faithful telling.
Visible choices.

A retelling may use new language. It does not get a new plot.

One selected version

Each story is based on one identified recorded version by default. Other tellings belong in a separate variations section. If a composite is necessary, we label it and explain which elements come from which versions.

What a retelling can change

  • Use clear, contemporary English.
  • Break long sentences and clarify transitions.
  • Explain cultural terms in context.

What it cannot change

  • Add characters, events, dialogue, motives, or setting details absent from the source.
  • Change the ending or quietly combine regional variants.
  • Present modern media interpretations as traditional belief.

Sources and uncertainty

We record the source version, event sequence, ambiguities, and known variants during editing. A page without a confirmed source stays labeled as a prototype and is not considered ready to publish.

Illustrations

Illustrations are modern visual interpretations, not historical artifacts. We check depicted objects and clothing against reliable references before publication.
